Do You Know Your Road Signs?

If you had to take your driving test again today, would you pass?

If you’ve been driving for a few years, does learning to drive and taking your driving test seem a distant memory? Although your road experience will have increased and you’re in all likelihood a better and safer driver than you were in the early years, I bet there’s a few things you learned especially for your test that you could not recall now if your life depended on it – stopping distances anyone? One thing I remember having to learn was the different types of road signs and what they mean. 40 mph road sign Just for fun, how many of these road signs do you know? Answers at the bottom. Be honest, and tell us how many you got right. road sign 1) Does this one mean……? a. Dual carriageway ahead b. No overtaking c. Queues ahead d. Pass on the right only road sign 2) This one is the sign for….. a. Level crossing ahead b. Minimum speed limit applies c. National speed limit applies d. No waiting road sign 3) Does this sign mean…? a. You have to keep to the left b. No left turn c. Slow down d. Sharp bend to the left ahead road sign 4) The ‘horsey’ sign means….. a. Horse riding prohibited b. Farm crossing ahead c. Horses and riders only d. Look out for horses with riders road sign 5) What would you do here? a. Stop and wait at the end of lanes 3 and 4 b. Give priority to lanes 1 and 2 c. Move to lane 1 or 2, as lane 3 and 4 will be closed ahead d. Move faster in lanes 1 and 2 road sign 6) This one you’ll have seen a lot, but what does it mean? a. Caution: umbrellas being opened ahead b. Caution: man with massive mop ahead c. Caution: road works ahead d. Caution: snazzy dance moves on road road sign 7) Does this one mean….? a. No motor vehicles b. No flying motorcycles c. Motorcycles have priority over cars d. Caution: motor vehicles ahead So how did you do? Were these too easy for you? If you’re feeling a bit less confident, maybe it’s time to brush up on your knowledge of the Highway Code once more. 1) Is of course b. No overtaking. Red circles mean something is prohibited. 2) This one is c. National speed limit applies. If you don’t know the national speed limits for the type of road you are on, then you need to brush up on this too! 3) This one is a. You have to keep to the left – blue circles indicate something you have to do. 4) The horse sign is d. Look out for horses with riders. Red triangles are to warn you of a possible hazard. 5) This is of course c. Move to lane 1 or 2, as lane 3 and 4 will be closed ahead. It means you have 800 yards to move into the nearside two lanes. 6) This one should be d, but of course it’s c: road works ahead 7) This one is a. No motor vehicles. Remember, red circles mean something is prohibited.L
