The History of the Festival

While Goodwood is a location steeped in racing lore and history, this festival in particular dates back to 1993, when Lord March put into action his dream of bringing motor racing back to the Goodwood Estate. The Hillclimb

The main event, and a huge reason why Goodwood is so popular. Cars from different areas of the show all compete to get the best time in their class on the circuit. The track is just over a mile long, so when conducted at these speeds it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it affair, but the infamously slick and narrow course is a stiff challenge for even the best drivers. The Central Feature

Every year, a car maker is given the chance to build a centrepiece for the show. These sculptural follies are an iconic part of the festival, and each company tries to outdo each other year on year. In 2021, it was the turn of British maker Lotus, who provided a stunning AR (Augmented Reality) showpiece, allowing users to use their smartphones to bring the already impressive structure to life with animations. This year is the turn of BMW, who plan to celebrate the heritage of their M series performance cars. It’s sure to be a spectacular one.
